The New Orleans police and the fire department said they received several calls reporting the explosion, but neither department has confirmed a cause.

I don't know if this place is near a military base, but where I live I hear loud booms all the time. But, like I said before, I live near a big military base so these sounds are common.

From what I've researched, it could very well be an explosion from a nearby naval base. Although, still no confirmation on what may have caused it.
