The Australian government released the files to the public following a Freedom of Information Act request.
With the United States, UK, Canada and Sweden among the countries to have released documents pertaining to their investigations into the UFO phenomenon in recent years, it was inevitable that we would start to see other countries begin to release what they know about the topic as well.

Most recently, Australia's Department of Defence released a 10-page dossier on the subject covering investigations and notes dating to as recently as May 2023.

Suffice to say, however, that Australian officials seem less than enthusiastic about the subject.

According to the dossier:

The Department of Defense has no policy governing the reporting of UFO sightings.
The Australian Air Force stopped handling reports of UFOs all the way back in 1996 because it found "no scientific or other compelling reason to continue to record or investigate" them.
Officials are aware of the US-based All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) and are continuing to monitor their reports.
As of April 19th, 2023, officials are aware that several cases have been examined, but that no credible evidence of extraterrestrial activity, technology or objects has been found.

"Air Force's position continues to be that there is no scientific or other compelling reason to divert resources to the recording and investigation of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena," the dossier reads.

"This aligns resources with the priorities, mission and objective of Defence."
