Marc Dutroux's crimes traumatised Belgium, united the nation, and shattered public confidence in the justice system. The case is commonly described in the country as the worst thing to happen to it since the Second World War, and more than a third of Belgians with the surname Dutroux applied to change it between 1996 and 1998.

The justice system in Belgium definitely failed all these girls. How can you only give a person 13 years for 5 abductions and rapes...especially when one was a minor. And then to top it off by only having him serve 3 years...just so sad.

This is the first time I've ever heard about this killer before. I'm from America and our media usually don't cover or talk about serial killers outside this country.
