In the early days of the Cold War, the CIA ordered the creation of a secret programme intended to find ways of mind control.

Psychiatric institutions across the United States and Canada were funded by the CIA to perform experiments on patients using psychedelic drugs, sensory deprivation, electroshock treatment and more.

The programme was known by its now infamous code name: MK-Ultra.

I remember hearing about this years ago but I doubt if they ever stopped doing it. I also remember hearing about the Russians doing something similar. I'd imagine that most developed countries have done and are currently doing this kind of research.

During the cold War a lot of experiments were done, some of these experiments were for the betterment of human lives, whereas some experiments were horrific. One such experiment I read about was performed in the USSR where 5 human subjects were deprived of sleep. They turned into monsters.
