The mummy, called La Doncella or The Maiden, is that of a teenage girl who died more than 500 years ago in a ritual sacrifice in the Andes Mountains. The girl and two other children were left on a mountaintop to succumb to the cold as offerings to the gods, according to the archaeologists who found the mummified remains in Argentina in 1999.

Human sacrifice was very popular across cultures and continents until the middle ages. I wonder what made people do such things, how did they get the idea that gods can be appeased by offering a human sacrifice.

This is crazy. The girl looks like she is just sleeping. I remember reading about this mummy before but had forgot. it's just sad that her and the other children were sacrificed at such a young age.
