Australian brain computer interface (BCI) company Synchron allowed a 62-year-old man with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) to turn his thoughts directly into tweets — using a device implanted in his brain.
It’s the first time somebody was able to write messages on social media directly through a BCI, the company claims — a symbolically significant moment for the technology that could open the door for people with paralysis to stay in touch with the world. https://futurism.com/neoscope/als-tweets-brain-implant

Is this similar to what the late theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking was using? He also had ALS and eventually lost his ability to move and talk. I remember him using some type of computer device to type out what he wanted to say.

This is great to hear. One of my greatest fears is to grow old and loose my independence. So this technology is good news for me. I will hate to be too much of a burden on my kids as I get older

Is this the beginning of the creation of super humans? What would this world look like is everyone had this implant and was able to control many things more than just a chat interface?

This is one of the reasons I have hope in growing old. I fear that when I get old I will just be totally dependent of others and I will just be a helpless old man. But seriously, I hope this technology keeps advancing so all that need it will be able to use it in the future.
